The 18 Year-Olds

I was just reading Razif's and Chau's blogs. Seems that nostalgia is the theme today. No harm going with the flow I guess.

Yes, how time flies. Just 3 years ago, all of us S41ers were just ordinary students doing ordinary student things. I still remember the times we spent skipping lectures to go to the cafe to play carrom or to the Reading Room to play cards (the Principal incident comes to mind). It was like a game of cat-and-mouse with the teachers and we were never caught except once by Eugene Chan. Soccer till we dropped on PE days with the Fever. Beating the school team at their own game during a break. The trips to Starbucks at PSA building. The bowling and pool sessions at West Coast Recreational Centre. And of course the times we spent mugging physics, maths and economics at places like the Queensway Macs. Zif and Chau, still remember QIDDIPS?

Yes, we were 18.

3 years only. And now we're either just about to ORD or coming to the last year of Uni. Time really flies and it's time to move on to the next stage. Though we may never don our white oversized shirts, blue hipster pants and that gorgeous tie, the memories of SAJC will stay just as friendships last a lifetime.

Beginning of the end

23 days. That's all I've got left for my NS. Now reality sets in.

All this while, I've been wanting freedom. Freedom from having to go back to camp every weekday and having to see the face of the black dog and his minions (3SG and above only). Someone from camp put it right once. This 2SG was giving someone a wash-down and said that he was trying to start a rebellion by grumbling. He mentioned that CLTB was just like the Star Wars galaxy, it's us, the Rebellion, versus the Evil Empire. I found it funny since the beginning because it was as rue as can be. Yes, the Evil Empire was literally the Dark Side. Emperor Palpatine/Darth Vader/Grand Moff Tarkin is none other than Anand, the black dog and Master of the Dark Side of the Force. He is also Jabba when he just sits around and is served by his slave girl, Lucy, just like how Jabba was serviced by Princess Leia in Episode 5. By the way, Lucy doens't have to suck up to him. She literally sucks off him. He has his lackeys in the form of 1SG and below and to him, they are like Colonel Veers and Captail Peitt, Boba Fett and the Stormtroopers. With speed and aglility, they Dark Side sweeps in on defenceless systems (the Driver's Bunk) and annhiliates the entire planet using the Death Star.

But among the chaos, a group of daring individuals stand up and try to repel the Empire. They are the Rebel Alliance. This is where reality differs from fiction. The Rebels here in LTB don't have leaders and heroes in the form of Mon Motha, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca. Reason being that if someone tried being one, he'd be arrested and sent to the mines of Yavin 4 (Tuas LTB) to do hard labour and it's not pretty especially if the mining is done on a Saturday or Sunday. The force is either nowhere to be seen or it is completely controlled by the Dark Side. In any case, the Empire is much stronger than the Rebel Alliance. All we need now is a Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi to come and lead us in the destruction of the Dark Side's reign of tyranny. I don't think I'll be able to see that day. I'm scheduled to hyperspace away on 11 April. Till then, may the force be with the Rebellion.

Note: The above-mentioned events and characters are purely works of fiction. Any resembelance to real-life events or characters is purely coincidental when viewed from certain angles.
