News Flash: Army Week 5

News Flash: Army Week 5

yo guys...just got back from camp this morning then rushed off to the bank and then to meet jill and the gang so no time to blog this afternoon...anyway, back to army life...

The week that just passed was the 5th week spent on the inescapable rock of Pulau Tekong. The past month or so has, however, been quite interesting and I'm kinda liking it. So far, according to my Platoon Sergeant (PS), my platoon has been given the most welfare (treated more as humans than as dogs). This could be seen by the amount of Stand-By-Beds we've received as compared to that of other platoons; they've gotten at least 3 while we, 0. Oh well, guess that it's just plain luck that we've got sergeants that don't tekan their men for the smallest of things. Even if we get punished, I understand that it's their job to do it or else they'll get it from the CSM.

Training is quite fun cos we get to things that are relatively slack as compared to the PTP companies. While we do brisk walks, they go for IPPT training the whole day. I really pity those poor guys. They get 'tekan'ed for the most minor minor of mistakes. Anyway, while they spent their first 4 weeks sweating it out, my company spent out time developing out combat skills by going for marksmanship training at the IMT centre, learning how to strip and assemble the M16 rifle and going for outfield training. But of all the training we've had, my favourite was still the live range where we got to fire off real ammunition at targets 100m away. It seemed quite challenging at first but after going to IMT, it all became easier. Though I failed to be a marksman, I nonetheless felt a sense of achievement as i managed to pass the range test.

Just this week, the rest of the School 1 companies opened their doors to welcome new recruits. School 2 also did the same and all my classmates are there in Pegasus and Whiskey companies. Well, they're all confined for this weekend so I hope that they will adapt to army life soon and that they will enjoy their stat at BMTC just as I did. Good luck guys!
